One of my areas of concentration is Real Estate Closings. One of the most confusing terms for buyers and sellers to understand when buying or selling a house is “closing costs”.

For buyers, “closing costs” always sounds like a bad term because of the word “cost”. The term closing costs is an all encompassing phrase used by banks, mortgage companies, attorneys and real estate agents.

Closing costs to a buyer generally mean expenses and prepaids. The expense to the buyer are such items as bank fees (points, credit report fees, application fee, appraisal fees etc…) attorney fees, title search fees and recording fees paid to the Registry of Deeds to record documents such as a deed, mortgage and homestead.
